About Dear Emma

My name is not Emma. Although to be fair my surname is a bit like Emma.

It makes me smile when people call me Emma because I am touched that they thought I would name my brand after myself. I have lovely friends, three of them are called Emma, but that’s not why I chose the name. Dear Emma, to me, is a name that is affectionate and nostalgic. In the olden days when we used to write letters to each other we started them as we were taught, “Dear… ” but these days, we don’t write letters any more. We email and text and the salutation, if there is one,  is “Hi”.

And when we think of people we love and care about we might refer to them as dear to us and it feels warm and caring.

My name is Cathy and I’ve been sewing for a while. I once accidentally cut my school skirt with an absent minded scalpel and when I repaired it I stitched it to my duvet cover, so I know I’m not perfect.
